(Nasdaq: JAVA), the industry leader in multicore, multithreaded processors, today announced that it has selected TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) as its foundry partner for processors based on 45-nanometer geometry as well as future generations. Sun partner Texas Instruments (TI) will continue to test and package the 45-nanometer processors.

The Sun Fire X4450 and Sun Fire X4150 servers, powered by Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, enable customers to solve critical problems in the datacenter by offering more performance, higher density, and better power efficiency than competitive systems in the market today. Both servers also give customers a choice of operating systems, running the Solaris Operating System (OS), Windows, Linux or VMware, with the flexibility to deploy a broad range of applications.

(NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced a definitive agreement pursuant to which Sun will acquire the majority of Cluster File Systems, Inc.’s intellectual property and business assets, including the Lustre File System. By acquiring Cluster File Systems, Inc., the leading parallel file system provider, Sun intends to add support for Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) on Lustre and plans to continue enhancing Lustre on Linux and Solaris OS across multi vendor hardware platforms. As previously announced in July 2007, Sun also plans to deliver Lustre servers on top of Sun’s industry-leading open source Solaris ZFS solution, which is one of the fastest growing storage virtualization technology in the marketplace.

At the processor launch in San Francisco, Intel also endorsed the Solaris Operating System (OS) as the only mission-critical UNIX operating system for the Intel Xeon processor, recommending that OEMs and systems builders show support for the Solaris OS on Xeon-based platforms.

ARMONK, NY & SANTA CLARA, CA - 16 Aug 2007: IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Sun (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced that IBM will distribute the Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS) and Solaris Subscriptions for select x86-based IBM System x servers and BladeCenter servers to clients through IBM’s routes to market.
The agreement announced today is an extension of IBM’s existing support for the Solaris OS on select IBM BladeCenter servers, and exemplifies IBM’s commitment to offering clients the widest choice of operating systems available in the industry, as well as Sun’s commitment to offer customers a wider choice of systems for the Solaris platform. IBM and Sun’s support of interoperability via open standards also means that customers will be able to extend their infrastructure by connecting new platforms easily, while preserving their initial investments.
